Blessings

Happy November!

For the month of November I hope to post a blessing that I have each day between now and Thanksgiving. I may not post every day, hence I'm already a day behind due to a stomach bug we picked up while trick or treating. However, I do plan to give a blessing for each.

What gave me this idea? Well, I saw this idea on several blogs/facebook posts last year, but the true reason is linked to this song.

It is called "Blessings" by Laura Story. I happened across this song about 2 weeks ago when a friend emailed it to me and asked me to keep this in mind to sing the next time I volunteer or am asked to sing in church. Craig was asleep and I barely had the music turned up, but I swear I must have listened to it 10+ times. The words just really touched me, and I feel like they describe what our blessing should be.

This life is our blessing, but it's not our home. "What if my greatest disappointments, Or the aching of this life, Is the revealing of a greater thirst this world can’t satisfy, And what if trials of this life, The rain, the storms, the hardest nights, Are Your mercies in disguise" We know this is true, that our life here on earth is just a glimpse of what our eternity is, but how often do we forget. Therefore to start my month of blessings, I hold onto this song as a reminder of the things I need to be thankful for ... our life here on earth and everlasting life!

Here are the lyrics:

We pray for blessings
We pray for peace
Comfort for family, protection while we sleep
We pray for healing, for prosperity
We pray for Your mighty hand to ease our suffering
All the while, You hear each spoken need
Yet love us way too much to give us lesser things

'Cause what if Your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears
What if a thousand sleepless nights
Are what it takes to know You’re near
What if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise

We pray for wisdom
Your voice to hear
And we cry in anger when we cannot feel You near
We doubt Your goodness, we doubt Your love
As if every promise from Your Word is not enough
All the while, You hear each desperate plea
And long that we'd have faith to believe

'Cause what if Your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears
What if a thousand sleepless nights
Are what it takes to know You’re near
And what if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise

When friends betray us
When darkness seems to win
We know that pain reminds this heart
That this is not, this is not our home
It's not our home

'Cause what if Your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears
And what if a thousand sleepless nights
Are what it takes to know You’re near
What if my greatest disappointments
Or the aching of this life
Is the revealing of a greater thirst this world can’t satisfy
And what if trials of this life
The rain, the storms, the hardest nights
Are Your mercies in disguise
